Black seed oil, beyond the bottle.
A closer look at an ingredient woven into our signature soaps.
T&RBy Thames & Red2 min read

Every Thames & Red soap begins with the same three signature ingredients. Black seed oil is the first of them, and the one with the longest story behind it.
A seed with a history
Black seed comes from Nigella sativa, a flowering plant grown across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. The small, dark seeds have been pressed for their oil for generations and have a long place in Arabian household traditions.
For us, it is a natural bridge between the two influences behind the brand: a familiar ingredient from Arabian heritage, made into soap here in London.
Why it belongs in our bars
When we set out to create Thames & Red, we wanted a soap that felt considered on the skin as well as rich in fragrance. Black seed oil became part of that foundation, alongside Manuka honey and goat milk.
A small detail
Black seed oil, Manuka honey and goat milk appear in every soap in our collection. Each product page lists its full ingredients.

Beyond the bottle
An ingredient is only one part of a bar of soap. Fragrance, marbling and the way it is wrapped all shape the experience. Black seed oil sits quietly in the background of each one — part of the ritual rather than the whole of it.
One ingredient. A long tradition. A new home in London.
Explore each soap for its full ingredient list, or read on about the other two signature ingredients: Manuka honey and goat milk.
